Chocolate City-signed artist Victoria Kimani this week became the first Kenyan *solo-artist to get her very own channel on the global music video website Vevo, hosted on YouTube.
VictoriaKimaniVevo features her mega-hit ‘Mtoto’ which has been receiving lots of radio and TV-play since its release earlier this year. This is ahead of the launch of her next single ‘Oya’ which is expected to drop sometime mid next week.
The first group of Kenyan artistes to get VEVO-fied though, is Crew Teflon (with some new music which we’ll be featuring soon).
Vevo is a joint venture between global music recording giants Universal Records, Sony Music Entertainment, Abu Dhabi Media and EMI record labels, with featured videos syndicated across the web and advertising revenues shared between Google and Vevo. Vevo is a premier choice for artists because the site attracts high-end advertisers boosting the profile of musicians featured on it.
A select few other African musicians can boast their own Vevo channels, including Nigerian stars D’Banj, Nneka and Asa. Here’s how Vevo describes itself:
“VEVO is the leading music and entertainment service, providing live and on-demand music videos as well as original programming to nearly 60 million unique users in the U.S. and Canada each month. With over 45,000 music videos from more than 11,000 artists, VEVO extends across the digital platform via syndication through YouTube, AOL, CBS Interactive Music Group (Last.fm, MP3.com), BET, Fuse.tv and Univision, as well as Mobile (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Android, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerry PlayBook) and Connected TV (Google TV and Boxee).
VEVO features the most extensive catalog of premium music content found anywhere on the web thanks to deals with such leading music companies as Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Music, ABKCO, Beggars Group, Big Machine Records, CBS Interactive Music Group, Concord Music Group, Hollywood Records, Lyric Street Records, Razor & Tie Entertainment, Ultra Records, Walt Disney Records, Wind-up Records, Caroline Distribution, Entertainment One Distribution, Fontana Distribution, INgrooves, IODA, RED, SAAVN and The Orchard, among many others.”
With such an extensive repertoire of partners, it’s a huge boost to Kimani’s image as each re-distributes to other sub-distributors and more often than not get the names of the artists out there. This is great news for Victoria as she plans her launch on May 31st 2013 at Nairobi’s Museum Hill.
For the first time in concert, the singer will be performing new unreleased music and the songs you Love at THE LAUNCH brought to you by Adrenalive and Chocolate City.
